Description
Searching for information about Barn Quilts in Jackson County, I came up empty. I did learn other valuable information though about this relatively new rural art form made of painted plywood and hung on the sides of barns. It originally started in the state of Ohio in 2001. It was a way of bringing the traffic back into the country, promoting the historical heritage and stimulating the economy of the rural countryside. Since that time Wisconsin has played a leading role in the quilt tour which provides tourism to the state. In 2011 Green County had 106 barn quilts. As of this May Shawano County had 205 of these art pieces. In short the Barn Quilt project promotes the importance of farming to Wisconsin and the architecture and history of farms.
Visit the website at Wisconsin Barn Quilt Trail Map OR http://barnquiltinfo.com/map-WI.html to see where many of these quilts are located.
